Low Cost Healthcare Solutions
With 47 million people currently without healthcare and with 3 million jobs lost in 2008. More Americans will find themselves without health insurance, the ability to get health insurance, or high cost of medical bill putting them deeper into debt. If you are one of the millions of Americans were recently terminated or laid off, by law, all employers are required to continue group insurance coverage through the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA). While you must pay 100 percent of the cost, this may be your best option. If this option is not for you, or if you are close to exhausting it, do not go without health insurance. For those people already without health insurance or low income may qualify for programs to help pay for prescription drugs. Consider the follow:
- If you consider yourself to be relatively healthy the National Association of Health Underwriters can assist you in finding a health insurance broker.
- If you have exhausted your COBRA benefits, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act requires that states provide minimal coverage, provided you have not had an extended break in coverage, which varies by state. To find out the rules in your state, contact your state insurance department.
- If you have been considered uninsurable due to significant health problems, considering applying for coverage through your states high-risk pool. Contact the National Association of State Comprehensive Health Insurance Plans, to see if your state has such a pool. Medicaid-Note: eligibility requirements and benefits vary by state.
- State Children’s Health Insurance Program(SCHIP) provides coverage healthcare coverage to children whose families make too much to qualify for Medicaid.
